Stuart Matthew Price plays Frank in Mack and Mabel at The Vault, Southwark Playhouse.
The production is from the same creative team behind last year’s critically acclaimed Parade, a show for which director Thom Southerland received an Evening Standard award nomination for. Choreographer Lee Proud is resident choreographer for the West End production of Billy Elliot and producer Danielle Tarento won Best Producer at the 2012 Offies.
Mack & Mabel, book by Michael Stewart and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, tells the story of the tumultuous romantic relationship between Hollywood director Mack Sennett and Mabel Normand, a waitress from Flatbush, Brooklyn, who became one of his biggest stars. In a series of flashbacks, Sennett relates the glory days of Keystone Studios from 1911, when he discovered Normand and cast her in dozens of his early “two-reelers”, through his creation of Sennett’s Bathing Beauties and the Keystone Cops to Mabel’s death from tuberculosis in 1930.Overview
