Amir El-Masry plays Jamil in Syria: Bread & Bombs a drama serial for BBC Radio 4 which airs every evening this week at 7:45pm. Mary Ward-Lowery directs.

Hassan, Jamil and Samara are taking the hazardous journey through Turkey across the Syrian border with a convoy of lorries loaded with nappies, baby milk and food parcels.

But there’s tension in the group of aid workers. Jamil is old school and likes to do things by the book. Hassan is a maverick, used to doing things his own way and getting his own way. And Samara has brought her puppets along.

Amir is a recent graduate from LAMDA. He has also had leading roles in feature films, El Talata Yeshtaghalonha and Ramadan Mabrouk Abu El Alamein Hamouda, the latter earning him an Egyptian Oscar for Best Young Actor and national acclaim.

He recently shot the role of Bolts in new BBC3 comedy pilot Rudeboys for director, Ben Gosling Fuller. He has also filmed the role of Alireza in Rosewater directed by US political satirist Jon Stewart. Other television credits include Casualty for BBC TV.

Amir shot in Morocco for season two of Transporter: The Series and also for season two of the FX production, Tyrant as Mousa. Most recently, Amir has been filming The Night Manager as semi-regular character Youssef.
