Amir El-Masry records The Insider today for BBC Radio 3.

To mark the centenary of Albert Camus’ birth, BBC Radio 3 will be broadcasting a dramatisation of ‘The Outsider’ for Drama on 3 by John Retallack, alongside this new drama for The Wire by Leila Abouleila, ‘The Insider’. Notoriously, the fate of The Outsider’s narrator, Mersault, is determined by his actions towards two Algerian characters – a sister and a brother. But despite their importance to the story, they are not named, not called as witnesses at his trial, and barely speak. So ‘The Insider’ sets out to tell their story, in the voice of the sister, Fatima, and her younger self, Fifi.

Amir is a recent graduate from LAMDA. He has also had leading roles in feature films, El Talata Yeshtaghalonha and Ramadan Mabrouk Abu El Alamein Hamouda, the latter earning him an Egyptian Oscar for Best Young Actor and national acclaim.

He recently shot the role of Bolts in new BBC3 comedy pilot Rudeboys for director, Ben Gosling Fuller. He has also filmed the role of Alireza in Rosewater directed by US political satirist Jon Stewart. Other television credits include Casualty for BBC TV.

Amir shot in Morocco for season two of Transporter: The Series and also for season two of the FX production, Tyrant as Mousa. Most recently, Amir has been filming The Night Manager as semi-regular character Youssef.
