Coronation Street has received its first BAFTA since 2004, winning the Best Soap and Continuing Drama award.

Natalie Gumede’s storyline highlighting female domestic violence has been one of the main issues featured in Coronation Street this year; the series was honoured for its careful tackling of difficult subject matter. This is the second win this year for Natalie who received the Best Newcomer award at the National Soap Awards.
