The episode features alien time traveller the Doctor (Matt Smith) and his companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) visiting the American Frontier, or “Wild West”. Here they encounter a town which is cut off from the rest of the frontier until they hand over Kahler-Jex, an alien doctor, to a cyborg called the Gunslinger. However, the Gunslinger is a product of experiments by Jex to save the people of his planet, and the Doctor is unsure of what is the right thing to do.

Much of the episode was filmed in the desert area of Almería, Spain, a location used for many Western-set films.

Overview

Dominic Kemp has recently filmed the role of Kahler-Mas in Doctor Who, the Christmas special of the acclaimed series Downton Abbey and White Heat. Other notable television credits include Waking The Dead, Tschaikovsky, Moses Jones, Pierrepoint, Wire in the Blood and 3 series of It's a Mystery.

Dominic can also be seen in the award winning feature film Song for Marion alongside Vanessa Redgrave and Christopher Eccleston and Miss Potter with Renee Zellweger.

As an expert in Post-War British prints, he is the author of Terry Frost Prints: a catalogue raisonne and is the chief advisor for prints at The Chambers Collection, Churchill College, Cambridge and a consultant valuer for the BBC's Flog It!.
