Shelley King: Calcutta Kosher Press Night

It’s Press Night tonight for Shelley King in Calcutta Kosher at London’s Arcola Theatre. Shelley is an original member of the Calcutta Kosher cast which was first presented to great acclaim in 2004. In this Arcola production directed by Janet Steel (Kali Theatre), Shelley works alongside Kaleem Janjua, Jane Lowe, Rina Mahoney and Harvey Virdi.

Kali Theatre is celebrating 21 years of cutting edge theatre by South Asian women with a festival of rich and diverse contemporary plays by some of the most original voices in theatre writing. The company was founded in 1991 by Rita Wolf and Rukhsana Ahmad to encourage, support and promote new theatre writing by women from a South Asian background. Since 2002 its Artistic Director has been Janet Steel.

Overview

Born in Calcutta, Shelley King is a leading Anglo-Indian actress. Television credits include series regular in Tandoori Nights, leads in Banglatown Banquet, The Bill, Silent Witness, Angels, Holby City. She recently played the role of Celandine in Atlantis for BBC TV.

Theatre productions include Women of Troy, The Man of Mode, Tartuffe and Little Clay Cart all for the National Theatre, Bombay Dreams Original West End Cast, Free Outgoing for the Royal Court and Hobson's Choice for the Young Vic. She has also worked extensively with Tara Arts and is also chair of Kali Theatre Company.

Feature Films include Nothing Like This, All In Good Time and Code 46.

Shelley plays Yasmeen Nazir in long running British soap Coronation Street on ITV.
