The National Theatre holds the official press night tonight for ‘Children of the Sun’ in the Lyttelton Theatre. Rhiannon Oliver will perform in the role of Avdotya in the latest Russian classic to be adapted by Andrew Upton, following his acclaimed collaborations on The Cherry OrchardPhilistines and the Olivier Award-winning The White Guard.

Maxim Gorky’s darkly comic play is set in Russia as the country rolls towards revolution. It depicts the new middle-class, foolish yet likable, as they flounder about, philosophising and flirting, blind to their impending annihilation.
