Benjamin Yates plays Riff in West Side Story which opens at Kilworth House tonight.
From the first notes to the final breath, West Side Story is one of the most memorable musicals and greatest love stories of all time. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is transported to 1950’s New York City, as two young idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the “American” Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time. Arguably this iconic multiple Award Winning musical has the most famous, legendary musical hits of all time which include ‘Somewhere’, ‘Maria’, ‘America’, ‘I Feel Pretty’ and ‘Tonight’. Benjamin Yates is a graduate of ArtsEd and was the winner of the BBC Bursary Award.
He performed in the International tour of Wicked as Fiyero, Jesus Christ Superstar World Arena Tour which went to around the UK, USA and Australia. Ben toured the UK and Europe in Cats as Mungojerrie and in the West End playing the same role at the Palladium. He then went on to tour with the Original European production of Wonderland .About Sainou
