Stuart Matthew Price plays Dallas in Sweet Smell of Success at the Arcola Theatre.

Rehearsals have begun for the UK premier of the late Marvin Hamlisch’s Sweet Smell of Success. The Broadway production was nominated for 7 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and went on to win the award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical.
Sweet Smell of Success was created by Marvin Hamlisch (music), Craig Carnelia (lyrics) and John Guare (book).

Based on the 1957 film of the same name, the show concerns sleazy press agent Sidney Falcone and his willingness to do anything to get ahead. Sidney manages to capture the attention and patronage of powerful gossip columnist J.J. Hunsecker (based on famed New York columnist Walter Winchell). JJ is the most popular columnist in America and holds the power of life and death for celebrities and the businesses that cater to them. With JJ’s help, Sidney becomes one of the hottest agents in New York. However, catering to JJ’s egotistical desires is dangerous business. When Sidney fails to keep JJ’s sister Susan (Caroline Keiff) from running off with a jazz musician, Dallas (Stuart Matthew Price), JJ arranges for Sidney to be murdered.

Stuart Matthew Price made his London theatre debut in the critically acclaimed Parade at the Donmar Warehouse. Other theatre credits include The A-Z of Mrs. P at Southwark Playhouse, The Sound Of Music at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, Dear World at the Charring Cross Theatre, Shrek The Musical at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane (Original West End Cast); Merrily We Roll Along for the Sondheim 80th Birthday Celebrations; The Cradle Will Rock at the Arcola Theatre and Riff Raff in The Rocky Horror Show.

As a composer Stuart has written five musicals, his newest being Moving On. He has also released his debut album, All Things In Time.

Stuart will reprise his role as Riff Raff in the European Tour of The Rocky Horror Show.
