Fresh from Press Night of The Royale (Bush Theatre), Franc Ashman today begins shooting new 6-part ITV series Liar.

Laura is a smart and dedicated teacher, not long out of a relationship and unsure about getting back on the dating scene. Andrew is a renowned surgeon whose son is a pupil at Laura’s school. An initial attraction leads to a date, but neither fully realises the far-reaching consequences that their meeting will have on each other or their families. Truth and consequences go hand in hand in a tense and gripping thriller that examines both sides of a relationship and both sides of the truth. Are there really two sides to every story?

Liar explores the devastating cost of deceit on both the couple and their friends and family, as secrets and lies are laid bare…

ITV’s new Head of Drama, Polly Hill, will oversee production on behalf of the broadcaster, and director will be James Strong (Broadchurch, The Great Train Robbery).

Overview

Franc Ashman boasts an impressive list of theatre credits having performed extensively for the Royal Shakespeare Company and acclaimed theatre company Out of Joint under the direction of Max Stafford-Clark. She has also worked for the National Theatre, most recently playing Lorraine in the well-received production of Nine Night.

Screen credits include The Child in Time for the BBC, Apple Tree Yard for Kudos, Sick of it for Sky1 and for film, The Ones Below for Cuba Pictures and A Streetcat Named Bob.

Franc wrote and performed the soundtrack for Gary Oldman’s feature film Nil By Mouth, including the title song ‘Pandora’.
