Davood Ghadami shoots the feature film Desert Dancer. Davood stars alongside Freido Pinto, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Cullen and Reece Ritchie. This is the directorial debut of Richard Raymond (producer of Heartless starring Jim Sturgess, Clemence Poesy, Tim Spall and Noel Clarke) and is being produced by Pippa Cross of CrossDay Films. The script is by Jon Croker, who is also writing The Woman in Black sequel.
Desert Dancer tells the inspiring true and recent story of Afshin Ghaffarian (Reece Ritchie), a young, self-taught dancer in Iran – a country where dance performance is strictly forbidden by a brutal regime – despite the country’s rich and beautiful culture. Risking his life, Afshin started an underground dance company and performed in secret, hundreds of miles outside Tehran in the middle of the desert. Despite the danger, an audience traveled to watch his forbidden performances and Afshin became known as the Desert Dancer.
